20-credit subjects are the subjects that are used by universities and colleges in South Africa to calculate your APS scores. Subjects which don’t fall under the 20-credit list are not considered when you apply for courses at universities and colleges.

The important part about Grade 10 – 12 subjects selection is to choose the subjects will will gain you access into the courses you really like to study at universities and colleges.

As a rule, every student should choose a total of 7 subjects – all high credit subjects. Out of these 7 subjects, 4 specific, while the three are not specific.

20-credit subjects are considered as “high credit” subjects in South Africa.

Low Credit Subject

The only subject which qualifies to be in the low credit subject list if Life Orientation. Although it is compulsory, this subject will not be counted as part of your APS score calculation total credits.
