Can I Study Social Work Without Maths?

Hi learners. Do you want to study Social Work, but you are not good at Mathematics?

I would say, you are in the right place because, most of Social Work courses in South African universities, do not require pure Mathematics subject.

They, however, do recommend Mathematical Literacy Grade 12 course.

One important thing you should know – when applying for Social Work courses with Mathematical Literacy subject, you will be required to have higher marks, than students who are applying with pure Mathematics subject. Yes, Mathematics carries more weight that Mathematical Literacy at all South African universities.

Lastly, Social Work degree is one of those courses that really give a long deserved brake from solve for x – mathematical calculations. Mathematics is not a core focus for this course. However, when you reach your fourth year, up to postgraduate levels, your mathematical skills will come in handy when you do research statistics and quantitative research methodologies.
